Pupusa From El Salvador

When I was in El Salvador after scuba diving in Roatan, Honduras, I stayed in the capital city of San Salvador for a few days to take in some local Central American culture. I hired a local guide named Roberto of El Salvador Custom Tours to take me to Copan which is a major Mayan historical site. Along the way and back, Roberto took me to a few sites in El Salvador including a restaurant stop to try out some local El Salvadorian cuisine.

I was introduced to the national dish of El Salvador which is pupusa. Pupusas are small round corncakes similar to flatbread or pancakes often filled with cheese, different types of meat and even vegetables like squash and pumpkin. Here is a short video of me and Roberto at this local restaurant where he introduces me to pupusas.

The above short clip is actually part of a longer video which shows a few different places in El Salvador that I visited with Roberto and if you want, you can see it in our YouTube channel.

I just love authentic local experiences like this as I get to learn a lot more about the local culture of a country I’m visiting. There are Latin American communities in the Greater Toronto area where I live as well and I’ll be sure to look for pupusas up here.

This is just the first post for our food category here at Unity Power Force and you can bet there will be lots more to come!
