BBQ Pork Buns In Chinese Dim Sum

Last time when we posted about dim sum dishes, we looked at water chestnut cakes and this time we’ll look at another dish that is considered one of the standards in Chinese dim sum, BBQ pork buns. The pieces of BBQ pork inside these buns are often sweetened with sauces. Nothing beats these BBQ pork buns as comfort food when they arrive to your table steaming hot.

Most BBQ pork buns called ‘shar sui bau’ in Cantonese, are steamed and are white in colour as pictured above. Sometimes in addition to these white ones which are considered the standards, there are baked versions of BBQ pork buns which come in yellow.

Each time I’m at a Chinese dim sum, these BBQ pork buns will always find their way to our table. So as long as you get to a dim sum, you will most likely get to try these. You can also buy them at some Asian grocers as well.
