Ox Beef Tongue Is A Delicacy More Common Than You Think
Every now and then we like to do a post on ethnic cuisine here at Unity Power Force since food is a great way to help people from different cultures get to know each other. The other day I was in Mississauga and stopped by a local Chinese bakery and teahouse for a quick lunch since I had a craving for Hong Kong style milk tea. This place called Hawaii Bakery also serves quick cheap lunches and I noticed they had a ox beef tongue dish which I haven’t had for a long time but have had it since I was a kid.
Now some of you might think that eating an animal’s tongue might sound gross but ox beef tongue in particular is a delicacy enjoyed by many cultures as it’s one of the most tender cuts of beef as it’s almost as soft as canned luncheon meat. Beef tongue is also more common than you might think as it’s often available right at many local grocers. So if it’s available there than you can bet than enough people are buying it to warrant the grocer stocking it.
The dish I had for lunch was pan fried ox beef tongue with spaghetti along with a nice cup of Hong Kong style milk tea for a total of about $12. This was perfect before my road trip back up north to Collingwood. I would totally recommend that you try such a dish sometime as it’s not as gross as it might look. Ox beef tongue is actually very delicious especially when cooked right.
