Clint’s Big Climb Up Piedra Del Peno

Clint’s Big Climb Up Piedra Del Peno Giant Rock

Just outside the town of Guatape in Colombia is a giant rock known as Piedra del Peno and one of my objectives of this return trip to Colombia was to climb it to the top. It was almost 700 steps up and this would be my first stop on my day trip from Medellin. The bus dropped me off at a fair distance from the base of the rock itself which involved a bit of a climb up to it. Even at this point there was some nice views of the ‘lake’ which was actually formed by constructions of dams.

Once at the base where I bought my ticket, it was time for the big climb up. This is where I got to find out just how well my cardiovascular fitness training has been lately and it turned out it wasn’t too bad for me as the steps were quite evenly spaced apart.

I passed quite a lot of locals stopped along the way up who were obviously winded as I pressed on up noticing the views getting better and better.

Once at the top there were food and souvenir vendors but I didn’t bother browsing since I assumed these would be priced at premium rates since there were no other options up top. This is where I shot most of the following video to show the amazing views as best I can.

After enjoying the views from all the different directions up top I started to make my way down the separate set of steps used for the descent with a huge feeling of accomplishment.

After making it down Piedra del Peno, it was time to grab a local tuk tuk to the town of Guatape.
